Why Pilates?

George Bernard Shaw once said, “We don’t stop playing because we get old: We get old because we stop playing”. This is so true and applies to the movements and exercises we put our bodies through every day. We have to keep moving to keep agile. If you don’t use it you lose it. At Body In Balance Pilates, we explore the wonders of movement through Pilates.

Some people just love to move while for others maintaining their youthful movement becomes more of a challenge as life gets busier and we have more commitments. Once we start to limit our movements through a more sedentary lifestyle we find our range of movement becomes reduced and our strength and flexibility decline.

The good news is, it’s never too late to start to improve in all these areas. It doesn’t matter if you have never exercised before or if you are returning to an activity you loved in your youth. It’s never too late to start or return to exercise. Motion is lotion.

The most important thing to consider is doing something you enjoy. This is the most likely route to keep doing any activity. Whether it is Pilates, yoga, walking, running, swimming, or 5-a-side football, just do it. Having said that, I am a Pilates teacher, and you are visiting this website because you are exploring the prospect of doing Pilates. I highly recommend Pilates as a unique form of movement and exercise but also as one of the best complementary disciplines you could possibly do to enhance any other movement practice or sporting activity. Movement matters, but more importantly, the quality of movement matters.

Pilates will teach you to move intelligently and improve your posture. You will become stronger and surprise yourself with how much easier everyday tasks feel. Pilates exercises have been incorporated into physio and rehabilitation sessions for more than 100 years, which is the surest sign that it works.
